Mark’s Athens Diary

Just a brief synopsis of my day, not necessarily, meant as a report, though. winking

I met up with Jordan Stepp (Athens Music Junkie) at Wuxtry where I paid her for the tickets she had picked up for me for the 40 Watt Baseball Project show. I had a nice conversation with her and Chris McKay (lead singer of The Critical Darlings) before Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey, and Steve Wynn entered with acoustic instruments in hand to shake off a few quick ditties before signing some autographs and heading out. I took the opportunity to slide in and get the new hard copy of Collapse Into Now (I had bought the iTunes LP version) that I purchased just a few minutes earlier signed. I also took the opportunity to ask Peter for a picture and he kindly obliged. He was very kind, but, the pace of their Wuxtry visit was quick and so conversation was minimal.

Then we headed over to the show and my wife Angela and I moved toward the stage. The Kevn Kinney show was fantastic. Of course, being unfamiliar with Kinney, the highlight for us was seeing Bill Berry, Peter Buck, and Mike Mills on the same stage backing Kinney up (along with Wynn, John Keane, etc.). His music was great, though, and I’ll be exploring that more, for sure. The Baseball Project also put on a great set. The between-the-songs banter between them throughout the set was a pleasure to take in along with the music.

Our night came to a close by meeting Linda Somerville, taking her picture with Mike Mills, and getting my Collapse Into Now CD signed by Mike. I reminded him that we had met in Carrboro at the Big Star show in December and he personalized my CD winking

All in all, a good night! Always a pleasure to be in Athens winking

All The Best, Mark
