Mills Alert! The legendary New York rap pioneers Beastie Boys have filmed a new 30-minute video aptly titled “Fight For Your Right Revisited” to promote their new album Hot Sauce Committee Pt 2 coming out in the month of May. Now, why am I mentioning this here? Well, aside from me being a huge Beastie Boys fan, the real reason is that they recruited a host of Hollywood stars and fellow musicians to appear in the video, including our own Mike Mills! Plus: Elijah Wood, Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, John C. Reilly, Seth Rogen, Jack Black, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst, David Cross, Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Jason Schwartzman, Adam Scott, Rainn Wilson, Steve Buscemi, Chloë Sevigny, Alicia Silverstone, Martin Starr, Ted Danson, Rashida Jones – and of course the Beasties themselves – Ad-Rock, Mike D and MCA.
According to andPOP, the film premiered at Sundance Film Festival last month and received a mix of reviews. In the video, we find the “Beastie Boys” (Elijah Wood, Seth Rogan, Danny McBride) in 1986 the day after the legendary “Fight for Your Right (To Party)” video took place. It is rumoured to be a long-running Saturday Night Live skit from there on out.
Below is the trailer for the video, so you can judge for yourselves! Mike is not seen in the preview, however I hope that the full film will be released soon. Don’t you find it hilarious that Mike is not appearing in R.E.M.’s own “music-videos-or-art-films-or-whatever”, and yet he’s making a cameo in his friends’ video!?

Good for our Mike! He ran away from the R.E.M.’s videos
I’m curious to see this video.
April 8th, 2011 at 6:54 am
Wow, that’s way cool! Haven’t heard anything of that video before, let alone Mike starring in one!
Oh WAIT, WAIIIT, just checked the IMDB-site of the short film, and I hate to tell y’all that but… it seems that the Mike Mills appearing in the video is actually…
the director Mike Mills!!

Yeah I also thought it could be the director, but then again REM and Beasties are friends, ans IMDb is not too reliable, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
April 8th, 2011 at 10:49 am
I sure hope it’s our Mikey Mills
April 10th, 2011 at 7:10 pm
So, if Mike Mills and Mike Mills are ever in the same place at the same time, what would happen? A rip in the space-time continuum?
April 14th, 2011 at 12:12 pm
Precisely!!
Even more, if Mike Mills and Mike Mills were in the same place at the same time, the universe would collapse into now.
And if Mike Mills collided with an Anti-Mike Mills, they would annihilate each other.
April 15th, 2011 at 5:27 am
Lol
But most of all, where is NOW Mike Mills?
April 15th, 2011 at 2:48 pm
Ok, now I’m more relaxed…

Ah, whew! At least it’s more exciting than what he was doing before. Last I checked, he was giving a business talk discussing the music industry!
April 15th, 2011 at 3:57 pm
Wow, great!! Thanks for the link Dol!!
Oooh, small town connections…

So nice to read Mike will be doing this!
If only I could be there… that would be like uber-great…
Let's hope someone will shoot a video of it and upload it to Youtube
Oh, BTW, I also found something – an interview with Mike about baseball (and nothing but…
. It's been posted in the news on Murmurs on March 31st, so it's quite old news… Nevertheless I stumbled upon it yesterday, and since I haven't seen this posted anywhere here yet, here it is:

Erm, I think you guys are barking up the wrong tree. Pretty sure it’s Mike Mills the director! He also designed some beastie boys album covers…

Hello again Ivana! I hope you’re well. Not much has happened while you’ve been away, although the videos for “Every Day is Yours to Win” and “Discoverer” are out.
…and of course, as Dol has pointed out, a certain Mr Mills has been rocking as usual! He’s actually touring with the Baseball Project later this year, and Linda’s going to see him.
May 5th, 2011 at 4:11 pm
Speaking of The Baseball Project, here’s a great new interview with Scott, and scroll down for details on the infamous fantasy baseball league.
http://www.spectrumculture.com/2011/05/interview-scott-mccaughey-of-minus-5-rem-and-more-vol-1.html
Seriously, they need to tour Europe this summer. We may not be baseball experts on this side of the pond, but we know music.
May 6th, 2011 at 1:47 pm
Hi All, I am hopeful that Mr. Mills is going to be in Toronto with the Baseball Project. I will let you know how the show goes. I am taking the husband and some friends, so hope to have a party!!! Welcome back Ivana. We missed you.
May 7th, 2011 at 5:12 am
Yay Linda!! Can’t wait for the pics and your report about the concert!!
Here’s BTW an article on the site The Big Picture about the 25th anniversary special edition re-issue of Lifes Rich Pageant:

Aw man, if only there was a video… AC/DC is one of my favourite bands, next to R.E.M.
May 10th, 2011 at 12:39 pm
AHHHH….AC/DC memory…The “Sars” Concert in Toronto. AC/DC performed 2nd to the last, before the Rolling Stones. They tore up the stage, incited the crowd and set the standard for the night, ending with Angus Young dropping his pants to flash his Canadian flag underwear!!! The Stones should never have gone onstage….they were no match for the power of Angus and the boys. People started leaving during their set. Folks up here, in the great white north, still talk about that performance
May 10th, 2011 at 12:40 pm
BTW…..just finished listening to Texarkana….so beautiful. LOVE that song

May 11th, 2011 at 3:23 am
I saw AC/DC 2 years ago, when they promoted Love Train. Best concert ever.
As for Dol’s link, lol, I want to be Mike Mills when I grow up. I mean, I don’t want to be him, I just want his life.
Sorry folks I’ve been neglecting MMT – it’s the end of the academic year and I’m swamped with students’ assignments, essays, and today I’m gonna spend the entire day listening to their recitals. I do apologise, but one has to earn a living.
May 11th, 2011 at 10:08 am
Wow, you’ve all seen all these amazing bands – R.E.M., Baseball Project, Disciplines, AC/DC… and what have I seen? Bryan Adams.
I don’t think I want to be Mike Mills – I just want his awesome musical talents, and I want to take him home with me so we can play music all day!
Oh, and Ivana, check your “Webmiss” e-mail. I’ve sent a little surprise for you!
May 12th, 2011 at 2:34 pm
Now Auctioneer…Bryan is pretty cool….after all, he is a Canadian
and he does have a decent concert presence.
May 13th, 2011 at 10:23 am
Haha, I was just kidding!
I actually do like Bryan Adams.
May 14th, 2011 at 5:47 am
Dol, thanks once again for the great links!

Ahh, the Kentucky Derby… I raised my nosing glass of Woodford Reserve Special Edition Kentucky Derby 133 / 2007 to Mike
I bet he had one or two drams of some fine Kentucky Bourbon that party night… at least some tasty Juleps, that’s obligatory for the Derby
Wow Linda, you went to an AC/DC concert? You amaze me, gal!

Well, seems I gotta download this great concert!
Ivana, don’t worry, as far as I’m concerned, I’m also fully immersed in work (my thesis), from when I get up until I go to sleep again (also, dreams they complicate my life
), no free time whatsoever at the moment.
Auctioneer, haha, yeah, that would also be my dream, having Mike drop by and make music together all day (and, most importantly, night – um, I mean, we’re talking MIKE here
)
May 16th, 2011 at 9:22 am
Sorry to disappoint Kirsten.I only watched the AC/DC on tv live from the site.
I wish I had been there. I have however seen The Beatles live twice,Genesis, The Eagles, Styx, the Doobie Brothers, Bob Seager and the Silver Bullet Band, and….Bryan Adams…
May 16th, 2011 at 12:43 pm
OMG, WOOOOOW!!!
That’s all I can say…
Well, I stick to what I said before: You amaze me!!
At least I can claim that I’ve also seen Genesis live
May 24th, 2011 at 11:22 am
“Bad” news from “The Baseball project” bandwagon. Our Mike will not be part of the band during the European tour this summer.
We can only see a little cutie boy
:

May 25th, 2011 at 3:13 am
Aw, man! That sucks.
But perhaps he might be making an appearance on keyboards – after all, it doesn’t say he’s leaving, only that Peter is resuming his duties for the tour. I realise it’s a bit far-fetched, but it’s our only hope!
May 31st, 2011 at 12:51 pm
New jacket, new dance, same old great singer!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GzN3KttsvU
I miss so much a tour right now. I must stop watching this kind of video
June 14th, 2011 at 6:16 pm
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but is it safe to assume that this place is no more? I certainly hope not, but seeing as how there have been no new posts in two months, it seems that way. Please let me be wrong.
June 15th, 2011 at 7:04 am
Oh Kay, you’re so sweet!
Don't worry, I haven't given up on MMT – this lack of updates is just a temporary thing because I've been incredibly busy these past few months… I'm going through this transitional period in my so-called "career" at the moment, you know, sowing the seeds for future… plus I'm helping my hubby launch his own business. So I've been working 14-18 hours every day, and by the time I'm done with all that, I simply do not have the energy to update this website, I only want to

I'm hoping to start working on MMT again next week – there are so many photos, videos, testimonials and other gems to be added, mostly re: The Baseball Project tour. Just bear with me for another week, please!
June 15th, 2011 at 2:09 pm
Oh my Ivana, please take your time to get enough rest, I’m worried about you!!

14-18 hours work EVERY DAY? How do you do that?? I can hardly believe it’s possible to go through so much strain without collapsing (into now) after a few days at the very most!
BTW, I finally watched Fight For Your Right Revisited yesterday (the Beastie Boys seem to have already put it up on Youtube on 4/21) and it is indeed Mike Mills the director who’s acting in the short film, no sign of our Mikey whatsoever.
You can watch it here:

June 15th, 2011 at 5:57 pm
You have and incredibly busy schedule my dear, so take your time Ivana..HUGS…I will just tell folks here that Mike was magnificent on the Baseball Project Tour ( and especially during the Toronto show that we saw
Besides tearing up the stage during Steve Wynn’s “Days of Wine and Roses and during ” Amphetamine”, he also took the time to sing “Rockville” for us
Mary( Scott’s girlfriend and a totally wonderful lady), and I rocked back and forth with our arms around each others’ waists while singing the chorus at the top of our lungs….the two of us….. and every other fan in the room!!! Mike was once again gracious and delightful, to everyone who waited patiently to meet him, and even gracious when he had to be firm with one overzealous , very wired fan who kept sticking his camera in when other people were talking to Mike.He handled it with a great deal of class. This time around, he not only posed for another picture with me ( my husband patiently took the picture for his crazy fan-girl wife)
and Mike even personalized and autographed my “Reveal” album. (Reveal is my favourite album)
YAY!!!!! As usual the rest of the band were also so much fun and so personable. My husband was thoroughly impressed by the music AND the people. Steve and Linda were super-friendly and Steve was surprised when he asked if we had seen the band before, and I told him I had been in Athens in March! Keith ( the hubby) and I spent a “laughing it up time with Scott and Mary,” and hugs ended the evening. TRY to get to see them in Europe this summer if you can. They are such fabulous musicians and so approachable. xpxoxoxoxox
June 15th, 2011 at 9:15 pm
Holy cow, Ivana! I had no idea you were doing so much. Do take care of yourself and don’t worry about this place.
Linda, it sounds like you had an incredible night! Can’t wait to see pics!
June 16th, 2011 at 4:22 pm
We did indeed Kay. Pictures have been sent to Ivana for clearance, so they should be up soon.

In this “Xfm 25: ‘Lifes Rich Pageant’ by R.E.M.” radio special, Inspiral Carpets’ Clint Boon has these moving and hilarious words about Mike Mills, transcribed as I understood them:
“Mike Mills to me brings [giggles] I was going to say the word femininity, it’s weird that…I think…I used to have a girlfriend and she looks a lot like Mike and Mike looks a lot like her. So he brings femininity. He’s the cuddly one, I mean…he’s the cuddly one: you know Mike’s the one you’d like to come to me…to your Mom and dad and say: this is me boyfriend, he’s called Mike, he’s in a band. [giggles] He’s just, he’s a great geezer, he looks good. He looks…he looks…he’s the hefty looking mom. [giggles]”
