Here’s a brand new interview, courtesy of Rolling Stone. Yesterday Michael Stipe performed at the Tibet House benefit concert in New York, together with Patti Smith’s band and a host of other friends. Michael sang “Every Day Is Yours To Win”, one of the ballads from R.E.M.’s latest album Collapse Into Now. Before the gig, Michael discussed the new album, and many other things. Enjoy!

I sat up and watched Michael on the Jimmy Kimmel talk show last night, ( wearing the same outfit). He was on a roll, with the talk show, interviews and Tibet House tribute the same daylaughing It’s interesting to watch an edited video like this interview and compare it to the live chat on TV. He was very animated on the Kimmel show, excited about the album, pleased with the critics response and very informative about the series of 12 films. That said, he was also VERY nervous, fidgeting constantly with his fingers, and at one point stammered quite badly. He laughed and acknowleged the stammer, but it was plain to see that he is a very intense and yet very shy man, to whom live tv appearances are an exercise in extreme discomfort. His love of what he does both musically and visually shone through. His respect for Mike and Peter was very evident, and I found him very intriguing and endearing

Excellent description of Michael! The astrology geek in me would probably say that he’s a typical Capricorn – shy and reserved, yet ambitious and wants to control things (and people) around him in order to feel safe and secure. Mike and Peter on the other hand are typical Sagittarians – very chatty, forthright and funny.

Hmmmm. Since my son is a Sagittarius, right on the cusp of Capricorn( Dec.21), it’s no wonder I like the guys so muchbig grin
