Collapse Into Now Tracklist, Plus The Posies’ Special Guest Star! – UPDATED
I’ve just received the latest R.E.M. fanclub newsletter, and guess what – they’ve revealed the full tracklist for their upcoming fifteenth album Collapse Into Now, to be released in Spring 2011! Some song titles are really extravagant; can’t wait to hear what the actual songs sound like!
Here’s the tracklist:
1. Discoverer
2. All The Best
3. Uberlin
4. Oh My Heart
5. It Happened Today
6. Every Day Is Yours To Win
7. Alligator Aviator Autopilot Antimatter
8. Walk It Back
9. Mine Smell Like Honey
10. That Someone Is You
11. Me, Marlon Brando, Marlon Brando and I
12. Blue
Woo-hoo!
Also, many thanks to Dol for letting us know that Mike Mills joined his pals The Posies and Brendan Benson of the Racounteurs on stage in Atlanta, GA. The Posies and Brendan are currently touring the U.S. sharing headlining credits (plus Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow play in Brendan’s band). I’ve recently seen the Posies in London, and they are in great form, not to mention that their newest album Blood/Candy is probably the best record they’ve released since Frosting On The Beater! So, if they’re playing anywhere near you, don’t miss the opportunity to see/hear them in action.
Anyway, back to Mr Mills, obviously he was there in Atlanta to support his buddies, and according to Paste, “the evening’s biggest highlight came at the end with an encore performance of Big Star’s ‘September Gurls’ by both acts, who were joined onstage by R.E.M.’s Mike Mills.” Some photos of Mike can be seen below, courtesy of Chris Rank for Paste Magazine.

UPDATE: My friend Adrian Garvey bought the latest issue of Q Magazine, and here’s what it says:
“All the best” is a “balls to the wall rocker” and sounds like a single. “Alligator…” is a rocker. The Eddie Vedder song was described as ‘driving’, ”Oh My Heart” is a follow on from “Houston” but with a New Orleans vibe and “Walk it Back” was written after a late night out back in the hotel using the in-suite piano. Buck says it’s the best collection of 12 songs they’ve done…
“Blue” is brooding, ends with the album title line. Patti Smith came up with the album title reading the album lyric sheet. Mills says it’s as good as anything we’ve ever done and has the energy of Accelerate, but it’s more diverse like Automatic For The People. Buck said they haven’t been as excited about an album in 20 years… Stipe is in “non interview mode” at the moment. “Discoverer” is very Green.
“Walk It Back” was written in the hotel suite on piano, recorded the next day in one take, they listened back a week later and decided it sounded “fucked up in a whole lotta ways, we couldn’t better it!”
Thanks Adrian!
I’ll get the mag later today and scan the entire feature.
